Who am I?
Such a small question but so hard to answer.
I’m Emma :)
A student at Princeton.
An athlete on the Cross Country and Track & Field team.
A girl exploring the world and having fun!
Some people know me as a chef, an athlete, a writer, and a traveller, others as a daughter, a sister, and a friend.
Welcome to my page. This is me.
My running story
My mother used to joke that I learnt to run before I learnt to walk, racing our cat and dog in circles around the house.
Later, I would go down to the oval after school with my grandparents and their dogs. We would play games like soccer and rounders and to really tire me out, I'd be told "go off, run a lap". Off I would trot, chasing my older sister around this big oval, the other side of which felt like another city -- running, because I'd always liked to run.
I was an active child, playing all manner of sports. Even up until grade 8 I'd thought I would be a netballer, but life had other plans for me.
I was at a school program in the countryside and discovered the joys and freedoms of trail running when Covid struck and everything shut down. Running became an easy and accessible outlet.
I began to train more seriously and fell in love with the competition of running. As I continued, I began to see that running was much more than just a sport — it is a community and a lifestyle.
I've competed for my school, my state and my country, and now college in America.
Currently I compete collegiately at Princeton on the women's T&F and XC teams, and am majoring in Public Policy and International Affairs.
The through-line however, is that most of all I compete for myself… I still love to run in circles.
The most beautiful places are often the hardest to get to. So I continue to follow this winding, uphill trail, and am just waiting to see where it all takes me.
